WRITING A (PRS) Personal Response Section Essay
THERE IS NO PRS FOR UNIT 1 or 2

Directions:  The AP Psychology exam has 2 essay questions that comprise 33% of your score.  This is how AP exam essay scorers want the essays written.  We will go over the specifics of scoring essays in class.
1. Pick ONE question, which may have multiple parts.  Most will be set up like multiple choice questions.  If "A" is not the correct answer, explain why it is not the correct answer.   If "B" is the correct answer, emphasize it!.<> Explain the major psychological studies associated with the topic. Use the  psychologist's name and explain the outcome of the research.

2. Respond in the order presented.  Do not make me or the AP scorers search for your answer. You will lose points.  Be succinct.   Do not be repetitive.  I repeat, do not be repetitive!

3. Explain the research from the text/class in your answer. This is not optional!
Example:   "As demonstrated in Pavlov's experiment using dogs and salivation (1912),  classical  conditioning is more effective if the reward  comes immediately  following the unconditioned stimulus. In this case, the reward was meat powder.  Other examples  of rewards  of this type may include lollipops, ice cream, and praise."

4. Do not include a works cited or bibliography. This is not a research paper. You will not remember these details writing  the AP exam essays  (2 essays - 1/3rd of the AP Exam score). Come April, you will have 9 or 10 major essays on every major topic in general psychology as study tools  for the AP exam.  This will make you very happy if you have included the research study, psychologists, and a description of the experiment in the essay.

5. Unit 13 and 14 PRSs will be written IN class.  You will not have the questions prior to class.  This is to practice for the AP exam.

6. Destressor:  You will receive ONE PRS pass.  This permits you to skip writing one PRS during the year without penalty. IF YOU LOSE IT, YOU USED IT.
Warning
: If you use the PRS pass (for most tests)  the scantron portion will be worth 2 points each = 100 points.

Select carefully when to use it.
